COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed for foreign language users of English, who wish to learn or improve their English competency in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
The course utilises the ABET (Adult Basic Education and Training) programme system, and is divided into four levels of proficiency, which learners will work through progressively to reach an ability of functional communication.
ABET LEVELS
Level 1: Std 1 / Grade 3
Level 2: Std 3 / Grade 5
Level 3: Std 5 / Grade 7
Level 4: Std 7 / Grade 9
CONTENT AND OUTCOMES
The content is appropriate for adults in their everyday lives, and topics are contemporary, practical and useful, e.g.:
- Writing: emails; letters (formal/informal)
- Social Contexts: hotel, restaurant, bank, interview, cocktail party, telephone calls
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants need to have literacy in their own language. Pre-testing will determine appropriate ABET Level of placement.
COURSE QUALIFICATION
NQF Certificate of Competence – a nationally recognised certificate.
DURATION AND TIMES
Full Time:
20 hours per week (6 weeks) Daily: 09:00 - 13:00 (Mon to Fri)Part-Time:
8 hours per week (15 weeks) Mon & Wed / Tues & Thurs (6-8pm), and Saturdays (09:00 - 12:00)COURSE FEES
